Situation

BBVA is one of the largest banks in Spain and a pioneer in digital transformation. As its international expansion grows, each country needs an app version adapted to local needs. A unified model ensures consistency while allowing flexibility for regulations, user behavior, and financial products, creating a seamless yet localized banking experience.

Challenge

Our goal is not just to lead digital banking but to build a scalable and globally adaptable mobile experience. As BBVA continues its international expansion, it is essential to develop a unified app model that maintains consistency while adapting to local needs. To achieve this, we will:


Develop a single, global mobile app
as the foundation for all BBVA markets, ensuring a seamless financial experience across countries.


Design a flexible and modular system that allows adaptation to local regulations, financial products, and user behaviors while maintaining a consistent experience.


Ensure an intuitive and accessible user experience,
leveraging a cohesive visual system that enhances usability and interaction across all platforms.

Create a scalable and efficient architecture, enabling fast deployment and iteration across multiple markets without compromising performance or security.

Constraints

We face several challenges in implementing this transformation:

Understanding diverse financial cultures. Each market has unique financial habits and user expectations, requiring deep research to create a product that resonates locally.

Technological disparities across markets. Infrastructure, connectivity, and device capabilities vary significantly, demanding adaptable solutions that ensure seamless performance everywhere.

Aligning with local regulations and market idiosyncrasies. Each country has specific legal, compliance, and operational requirements, making it crucial to tailor the app while maintaining a unified global model.

Ensuring cross-country alignment and adoption. Harmonizing strategies across multiple markets and aligning stakeholders requires coordination to ensure consistent implementation and scalability.

Coordinated business needs and UX deliveries.
Maintained effective communication with all teams, including Product Owners responsible for applications in each country, ensuring alignment on needs, timelines, and expectations.


Successfully managed delivery timelines for UX teams across countries.
Fostered open and clear communication with counterparts in every country where the project was being developed, ensuring consistency and collaboration.


Aligned UX and development delivery schedules.
Ensured that business deadlines were met by coordinating the delivery calendars of both UX and development teams.

Stakeholders

Business Team. Included Product Owners (PO) responsible for the app in each country, ensuring alignment with local business needs and objectives.

UX Team. Included Lead UX and UI Designers, as well as the design team based in Spain, collaborating to create consistent and user-centered designs.

Design Producers and Country Teams.

Included Design Producers and designers from each country, working to address local requirements while maintaining global standards.

Development Team

Included Development Leads and iOS/Android developers, collaborating closely with design teams to ensure seamless implementation.

What means global?

When creating an application like GloMo we have to be clear that we desgin one common solution keeping in mind the individual country needs.

A technological challenge


This requires an adaptation exercise. Because the services we have previously defined must be the same for all countries, but technologically, they must be adapted to the reality of each country simultaneously. An effort of global definition, and local in its implementation.

Created to be more consistent, efficient and competitive. A unique visual system, that was powerful and inspired action. Capable of creating experiences that are useful and accesible for everyone.

As BBVA is a leader in digital transformation, we have decided to bring the BBVA on the Watch experience closer together. Allowing the user to carry out consultative and operational actions from their wrist.

Multistep

Complete any banking operation quickly and easily.

 

Multistep is one of GloMo's main features at the UX level. As the user makes a step within the flow it collapses with an animation within the scroll. The user always has context of the point where he is and in turn allows immediate editing of each previous step. Creating a better product and a better experience.
